Perserving Heritage while Embracing Change in North Vancouver:
Snow capped mountains, old growth forests, raging rivers and new developments on every corner? Whether you like it or not, North Vancouver is changing! However, if you look closely you can still find pockets in the community where both original and updated heritage style homes exist, transporting us back to a different time.
Touchstone construction has had the pleasure of working on multiple 100+ year old homes, quirks and all! These older homes take a unique vision and a certain amount of bravery from the homeowner, to update and preserve the important heritage feel. While both challenging and unbelievably rewarding, we at Touchstone Construction love enhancing these older homes. We work closely with the homeowner to preserve the older qualities and highlight some more modern components.
Two of our favourite heritage style homes (not officially heritage registered due to prior renovations) that we have had the pleasure of working on, include 358 East 8th Street, North Vancouver (featured in our portfolio section) and 2016 Design Excellence and Heritage award winning 190 East Kings Road (see link below for pictures). On East 8th Street we completed a full upper floor gut, remodel/renovation and dormer addition. At 190 East Kings Road, Touchstone Construction worked with the homeowners to restore and improve their basement suite after a flood. Both projects took an immense amount of creativity, ingenuity and of course a bit of sweat, to complete two beautiful heritage inspired spaces!
We at Touchstone Construction strongly believe that change is good and that there is a place in our community for both modern developments and heritage family homes to co-exist. So let’s embrace growth and find unique and creative ways to continue building, updating and preserving the North Shore community that we are all proud to call home!
